About iOS 17.2 Updates
Apple gave an outlook on iOS 17.2 weeks ago. Since then, beta testers have been able to try out the new firmware. What’s special is the large scope of the update, which brings more than just a few improvements and bug fixes. Now iOS 17.2 or iPad OS 17.2 is ready and is being delivered on iPhones and iPads.
The next major iPhone update is here! You could previously test the first innovations via the beta, which gave an outlook on some useful and, above all, long-awaited functions. TechCrumz summarizes what’s new with iOS 17.2.
Journal app comes to iPhone with iOS 17.2
With the announcement of iOS 17, there was speculation about a kind of diary for the iPhone. With iOS 17.2, the “Journal” app is now coming to the iPhone and iPad. Apple itself summarizes the new app as follows: “Journal is a new app that lets you write about the little moments and big events in your life to practice gratitude and improve your well-being. Journal suggestions make it easy for you to remember your experiences by intelligently grouping your trips, photos, workouts, and more into moments that you can add to your journal.”
The application is not particularly complicated and is explained quickly. It is a kind of virtual diary in which users can write down events, their thoughts, or plans. At the same time, the app accesses data collected by the device to enrich the entries. These can be photos, whereabouts, workouts, or something similar. Apple promises that the data collected or drawn will not be passed on, but will only be used for the app.
Further innovations in iOS 17.2
In addition to the “Journal” app, Apple is delivering other innovations and features with iOS 17.2. We have briefly summarized the most important and most interesting ones below:
Playlists for Apple Music
With iOS 17.2 comes a new, automatically created favorites playlist that contains all the songs the user frequently listens to. Originally, playlists were also intended to be shared with friends and family. However, this function is a little late and will probably not come until the beginning of 2024.
Translate with the action button
This feature is intended for iPhone 15 users. You can set the translation function to the action button and have various texts translated at the push of a button. The application uses the languages that users have previously set up in the translation app.
Contact key confirmation on iMessage
This update is especially important for those who work with sensitive messages. These could be politicians, journalists, or even activists. This involves verifying the contact you are talking to or writing to. If an unknown device enters the conversation, users are informed about it. Chats are generally secured via contact key confirmation. In this way, cyber threats can ideally be prevented.
Change the default notification sound
Previously, iOS did not allow you to change the default notification sound. That changes with the update to iOS 17.2. You can now choose between different tones in the menu under “Sounds & Haptics”.
Weather widgets
iOS 17.2 also brings new widgets that show details, daily forecasts, and sunrise/sunset. In addition, users can now see precipitation, UV index, air quality, etc.
Spatial videos for the Apple Vision Pro
The current update improves the autofocus speed when shooting with the telephoto lens. It also brings a new function for the current top iPhones. Anyone who owns an iPhone 15 Pro or Pro Max can now record stereoscopic videos with the camera thanks to iOS 17.2. However, these can only be viewed with Apple’s Vision Pro headset.
The update also brings some improvements
As is often the case with current updates, Apple also delivers some bug fixes and improvements. For example, Siri support for recording health data and the autofill function for filling out PDF forms have been improved, Airdrop has been expanded to include additional options and compatibility with Qi2 chargers has been expanded for older iPhones. The update to iOS 17.2 also brings support for eight Sámi languages.
Should you install iOS 17.2 directly?
The update to iOS 17.2 is, as described, very extensive. In addition to numerous new functions, it also includes bug fixes for security gaps that may have been actively used. For this reason alone, you should install the update as quickly as possible. The new functions can also be an argument for many.
